Understanding the Difference
While both Botox and Dermal Fillers are minimally invasive injectable treatments used to turn back the clock, they serve entirely different purposes and target different types of aging signs. Understanding the distinction is the first step to your rejuvenation journey.
Botox (Botulinum Toxin) works by temporarily relaxing the specific underlying facial muscles that cause wrinkles when you smile, frown, or squint. It is used to treat "dynamic" wrinkles—the ones that appear during facial expressions. Once the muscle is relaxed, the overlying skin smooths out. It is the gold standard for the upper face.
Dermal Fillers (like Hyaluronic Acid) are designed to add physical volume beneath the skin. As we age, we naturally lose fat and collagen, leading to hollow cheeks, thin lips, and deep folds around the mouth. Fillers literally "fill in" these hollow areas and "static" wrinkles (wrinkles present even when your face is resting), restoring youthful contours to the lower face.
Common Treatment Areas
Botox Focus Areas
Frown Lines (Glabellar Lines)
The deep "11s" between the eyebrows that make you look angry or tired.
Crow's Feet
The branching wrinkles at the outer corners of the eyes visible when smiling.
Forehead Creases
Horizontal lines across the upper forehead caused by raising eyebrows.
Masseter Reduction
Slimming a wide, square jawline caused by clenching (bruxism).
Filler Focus Areas
Nasolabial Folds
The deep "smile lines" running from the nose down to the corners of the mouth.
Lip Augmentation
Adding plumpness, definition, and correcting asymmetry in thinning lips.
Cheek Contouring
Restoring lost mid-face volume to lift sagging skin and create higher cheekbones.
Under Eye Hollows
Filling "tear troughs" to eliminate dark, sunken circles and look more rested.

timelapse Botox Timeline

hourglass_bottom Filler Timeline
Results are immediate. Depending on the type of filler and the area treated, results last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.
update Maintenance
Consistent, regular treatments often train the muscles (for Botox) or stimulate collagen (for Fillers), leading to longer-lasting results over time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers about cosmetic injectables
Will my face look "frozen" or fake?
Not at all. A "frozen" look is the result of over-injecting. Dr. Anu follows a conservative, "less is more" approach. The goal is to soften the wrinkles and make you look rested and refreshed, while still allowing you to make normal, natural facial expressions.
Do the injections hurt?
Discomfort is minimal. We use ultra-fine "micro-needles" that feel like a quick, tiny pinch. For lip fillers (which are more sensitive), we apply a strong topical numbing cream beforehand, and most premium fillers already contain lidocaine (a local anesthetic) mixed into the gel for a painless experience.
Are Botox and Fillers safe?
Yes, both have exceptional safety records and are FDA-approved. Botox has been used safely in medicine for over 30 years. Hyaluronic acid (the main component in most of our fillers) is a naturally occurring substance already found in your skin, making allergic reactions incredibly rare.
What if I don't like my filler results?
One of the greatest benefits of Hyaluronic Acid fillers is that they are entirely reversible. If you are unhappy with the volume or shape, Dr. Anu can inject an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which safely dissolves the filler within 24 hours, returning your face to its original state.
Is there any downtime after the procedure?
There is virtually no downtime. You can return to work immediately. You may experience slight redness or swelling at the injection sites, which subsides in a few hours. Mild bruising can occasionally happen but is easily covered with makeup the next day. We just ask you avoid heavy exercise for 24 hours.
At what age should I start getting Botox?
There is no "right" age; it depends on your facial muscles. Many patients start in their late 20s or early 30s as a preventative measure ("Baby Botox") to stop fine lines from etching permanently into the skin. Others start in their 40s or 50s for correction. Dr. Anu will advise based on your unique skin assessment.
